Priceless role of Finishers in Playoff's

Image
After exciting and grueling encounters we finally have 4 teams to compete in the Qualifiers and Eliminator, Only 2 will Qualify to play the Big Final. As your aware the teams are as Follows: Mumbai Indians ( Qualifier1) Delhi Capitals (Qualifier 1) Sunrisers Hyderabad (eliminator) Royal challengers Bangalore ( eliminator)  No as your aware finishing in the Top 2 means that even though you loose in the Qualifier1, you are still battling it out in Qualifier2 with a second chance to get to the BIG FINALE. Role of Finisher in T20 is priceless, especially in a Pressure game it can be even more critical & it can easily impact the difference between the 2 teams. With the game being of Fine margins, the way you close out an innings while setting a total & ofcourse while hunting down a total plays a major role. Below Graphic Shows the Spilt of how much of a role a Top order (TOP 4)  vs. the Finisher have consumed on an average in the league stages. Below Graphic Shows for...

Boundary Frequency

Image
Boundary frequency is number of balls taken to get a boundary. This can be a boundary four or a boundary six. The more frequently you score boundaries, the better you situation is either while setting a total or defending, it's also a way to reverse pressure back on the opposition. While we are approaching the playoffs and big finals, the stakes are much higher. The team which is able to exert pressure on opposition by increasing their boundary frequency is surely going to have an upper hand. Below is team wise average boundary frequency in #IPL2020. It shows that teams are averaging between 5 to 7 balls per boundary overall so far. While historically in the playoffs and big final for last 3 year editions of Indian premier league the teams have scored boundaries on an average between 7 to 9 balls, (exception of 12 balls per boundary in 2017 game). So what does this tell us?  In the current edition the boundary frequency has got better and historical playoff frequency of boundaries ...

Will the real 2019 #CSK please standup in #IPL2020?

Image
Chennai Super kings (CSK) (3 time IPL champions) this year 2020 has been a shadow of the team they were in last year (2019). They find themselves in the wrong side of the points table at the halfway stage in IPL2020. Given below is a glaring fact in 2020 they have lost 5 out of 6 matches while chasing where they were so good last year where they won 5 successful run chases in the first half of the IPL 2019 One of the major reasons of this happening is the powerplay & the first half of their run chase, their approach has been very baffling to their supporters as they have lost wickets in heaps, which has resulted in the reqd. Rate shooting up. Above Chart Shows how Difference between the actual Runrate vs. the Asking rate at the start of the innings, it tells you that they have left too much to be done towards the latter stage of the innings, hence making it impossible to chase targets of 14 to 19 RPO in the last few overs. In contrast for 2019, in all of their run chases ...

Do you really need 200 to defend in Sharjah?

Image
Sharjah cricket ground, one of the oldest cricket grounds in the UAE with a history of amazing clashes from decades holds the record for hosting maximum number of ODI games. With respect to T20's it has seen a mix of Domestic T20's ( example PSL) apart from IPL so far. This year we've had some high scoring games where 200 has been breached regularly. Hence not too many wickets have fallen in this year's tournament. However the below Graphic will show that off-late you don't really need 200 to Defend and chasing isn't really an option that teams should opt for.  While the other venues Abu Dhabi & Dubai have had similar Run rates so far scores around 170 seems Par totals and Trend seems to be constant ( except with some games where totals of  200 plus have been scored) and not Dropping like the ones shown for Sharjah. Teams in the IPL this year have tend to Chase however the results so far have shown that Defending has been more favorable than chasing. Below ...

Emerging Bowlers from IPL2020

Image
The T20 game can be very hard on the bowlers, especially the young bowlers as they can easily be De-motivated and look for defensive tactics. However during this assault and attack by batsmen there have been certain outstanding players who have stood up and have come up trumps against the best in the business. #natarajan- Revelation for Death Bowling (Series of Yorkers) with ER of 8.3 and SR reveals that he will get you a wicket in every game. #ShivamMavi- Sensation for U19-2018 edition WC with Incredible ER and SR under 20 #Nagarkot- Sensation for U19-2018 edition WC with Incredible wicket taking SR but have to work on ER #ShivamDube- Surprise Package with the Bowl with this ER at Slog overs as his bigger role was Big hitting Finisher with Bat #DeepakChahar- Impressive Economy of below 8 with assured wicket taking ability in first half of the innings #Rahulchahar- In a squad which is thin on Spin he has picked wickets at SR 17 and kept things tight a...

League standings post Match23 in #ipl2020

Image
After almost 3 weeks of the Ipl 2020, we've had a mix bag of close encounters along with some pure one sided games where the chasing teams have been out of the contest for large parts of the run chase, which clearly proves that teams batting first have had the better of result but captains still insist in Chasing for some reason? Due to this mix, we've had a very clear split of top 2 and bottom 2 so far between the 8 teams so far. Delhi capitals - this was previewed as a good team with Match winners in all areas ( batsmen, seamers  and spinners) but consistency was the question. But so far post 6 games they've won 5 of them which is outstanding. Mumbai Indians - my preview on YouTube highlighted lack of depth in spin department which is a fact because when in Wankhede they win with Pace in their squad. So far the same formula seems to have worked with Bumrah,Boult and Pattinson having economy rates around 7 to 7.5 while bowling at stages of the games, which are the most dif...
